Couples are Fun

My first photo shoot with just a couple. IT WAS SO FUN!

I was afraid I'd make them look awkward, telling them to kiss, stand here, do this do that.

I'm not good at being bossy, except to my own kids.

Turns out, I didn't have to be too bossy. Anthony and Melissa just were together, with me clicking my camera everywhere.

It worked. I love these and I really enjoyed my morning. It was a beautiful day and the Mesa Center for the Arts is a great back drop.
























Anthony is being deployed soon. I'm happy I was able to capture some of their time together, maybe something to hang on too to make the void feel smaller. I wish him safe and speedy return!

SPRING!

Spring is here! 

The weather is changing, the pollen is doing it's thing and it's a great time for pictures.

Mothers day is around the corner and I just realized Easter is next month.

It's a perfect time to book a photo shoot. I have some great ideas, a fun new lens and I'm ready to go. Who wants their picture taken?

I know it's painful as we get older, but it really doesn't have to be.

See, that's me below. I let my son take my picture. It was hard to post this, but my family loves it. The kids like that it's just me - in my painting paints, with my messy hair hidden in a junky hat.

I'll even give you a chance to throw on some cute clothes and comb your hair!

All Day Long

I'm pretty sure I could never run a day care.

After about an hour volunteering in my kids classroom, I'm also fairly certain I couldn't be a teacher and not lose all my hair.

 But, I can take pictures of little kids ALL    DAY       LONG.

 

  



  

Coffee to Clicks

Years ago I worked at a Starbucks. It was the perfect job to go to school, make decent wages for the labor, have benefits and still have a life.

It was actually a sweet deal, but I was pretty disgruntled. I hadn't finished school, I was married, had a child and felt like I was in a very lowly job. I was more mad at myself than anything else, but I focused all of this on my job.

Some customers only perpetuated this feeling, making me feel like my job was completely useless, ridiculous and demeaning. Others just came and went with out much thought.

Very few customers share themselves with you and are genuinely interested in your story.

Jim was the later. A weekend customer, we knew his drink. He was friendly, interesting, interested in us and never annoying (sorry if you are that annoying Starbucks customer).

I was so happy when his daughter called me to take portraits of her entire family. I got to see Jim again, and see him in his element with his family.

I'm starting to really feel like it's a small honor to be asked in to a family's life and not just watch them interact, but grab portions of it on film for them to keep.

It was a fun day, and I really liked how these turned out.
